Competition heats up at The Spot.
Aug 29th, 2010 by KevinMc

Saturday at The Spot kicked off with a game of Urban Myth. This round was a close one with 8 teams competing, and although the Deuce Droppers, Grundle Bunnies, and The Rusty Trombone all came close, it was the Jello Shooters that took down round one’s free pitcher/appetizer.

Round two proved to be an interesting round, with style points flying around like crazy in Categorically Speaking. This time What Would Jesus Brew was up in the running, but couldn’t beat out The Rusty Trombone, who took down round two and a free pitcher.

Our BBQ went to a member of What Would Jesus Brew, way to go.

Round three was a game of Family Feud. Round three saw a two way tie between Raggae and What would Jesus Brew for second, and a two way tie for first between The Rusty Trombone and the Jello shooters. However, the Jello Shooters cashed in on an e-mail extra at the last second to secure round three and another free pitcher/appetizer.

Our overall winner for the night was The Rusty Trombone! Taking down a $25 gift card to The Spot.

It was another great night of Mind Games Live at Old Chicago on North Academy in Colorado Springs. We started out with a game of Urban Myths; which asked if such statements, as in the title of this blog post, were true or myth. This was a big hit and high scoring. It came down to a three way tie for first place between Team Kirk & Patty, Team Late (aka Team Josh) and Team BR, when Team Late used his email extra. However, before the scores were announced, Team BR also used his email extra to win round 1; which was a pitcher of beer.

Round 2 came down to another tie for first place, between Team BR and Team Late, when we played Categorically Speaking. Team BR and Team Late fought for first place, with Team Kirk & Patty and Team Shane coming up in 2nd and 3rd places respectively. A play off ensued with the question being the number of months an average $100 bill stays in circulation. Team Late came closest, winning an appetizer coupon. Rich of Team BR won the BBQ individual drink, when he guessed the correct answer to the percentage of U.S. exports that go to Canada (2007).

Round 3 was the game Family Feud and found a bunch of new teams joining in; with Dr. W, Dirty Socks, Ramrod, and Dandk. Team Dirty Socks won the round; a $10 food and beverage coupon, with Team BR coming in a close second place, and teams Ramrod and Dandk tying for third place. Team BR was the overall winner for the night, coming in with 59 points and winning a coupon for a large pizza.

Other teams to play during the evening were Team 14 Teenagers and Team DVDA. It was a great night of Mind Games Live, thanks to all the teams for coming out and playing. We’ll see you this coming Wednesday at 9:00pm at Old Chicago’s on North Academy in Colorado Springs.

Style Points Galore at Old Chicago in Thornton on Thursday
Aug 27th, 2010 by Brian

We had an…. energetic crowd at Old Chicago in Thornton this past Thursday.  Things started PG and by the book, but quickly took a turn leading to a round of Family Feud that was less than family friendly.

Round 1, we played Urban Myth. It was a straightforward round, won by Laurie’s Hot (and likes acrobatic fireman) although Tootie Frooties were only one point behind.

Round 2, we played Categorically Speaking. There were a few questionable answers which went to the entire crowd for deliberation. This time, three teams went to overtime, Smothered in Buffalo Sauce, Undecided, and “…” , the latter of which won the round.

Our BBQ went to Danniele who beat out the rest of the bar by a little over ½ million.

Our third round of the night, the crowd favorite, was Family Feud. Tim Tebo and WASP had strong showings, but it came down to a tiebreaker between CJ<,Undecided, The Kesmacs, “…” and Smothered in Buffalo Sauce. CJ took the round.

The big winner of the night was “….” who won two brewery tour passes. Congratulations, and thanks for coming out.

McCarthy’s

Always a fun and lively crowd at McCarthy’s and Tuesday was no different in that aspect. :) Teams were Strike One, Naughty Natives, Buds Wiser, G.A.S., Awesome, Spike, The Players 2, and HUH.  Round one was Urban Myth, where Michael Jackson’s nose didn’t really fall off, it was just a Pepsi commercial. :P Winning the round by one point and receiving the certificate for the free pitcher of beer were the Naughty Natives.  Round two was Categorically Speaking, a MGL original game. HUH won the round, and the free appetizer on that one.  The BBQ drink certificate went to Ed, he said his guess was a long shot, but he was still closest! :) Round three was a crowd favorite, Family Feud, which always racks up the points for the teams.  Winning the round, and the $10 gift certificate-Naughty Natives *cue cheers*!  So, the ladies (and gentleman) wound up taking the overall prize also, a $20 off gift certificate for McCarthy’s for next week.  Seeya next week, with bells on no doubt. ;)

Things get wild at Patrick Carroll’s
Aug 26th, 2010 by KevinMc

Patrick Carroll’s was hoppin’ Wednesday night with as many as 10 teams playing throughout the night. We started off the night with a game of Urban Myth. This round was a close one, with Happy Trees, Strongbow, andJam Band On Toast tying for second, and Free Vasectomy and Buddha tying for first. After a tiebreaker concerning the average circulation of a $100 bill, Free Vasectomy was awarded a $10 gift card to Patrick Carroll’s.

Round two was an interesting one playing Categorically Speaking. This time what would have been a three way tie between Vini Vidi Vici, Free Vasectomy, and 2 White guys and a ho, was ruined by Vini Vidi Vici’s e-mail extra at just the right time. Therefore, Vini Vidi Vici took round two’s $10 gift card.

Our BBQ went to Dylan, after a tie breaker concerning the largest sumo wrestler.

Round three came around with a game of Family Feud. This round was a lot of fun, although we lost a few teams. Yet again we had a tie, this time between Buddha and Happy Trees. Team Buddha triumphed, however, and took down round threes $10 gift card.

Our overall winner by a margin of 1 single point was Buddha. Good job guys!

Dancin’ in your Birthday Suit!

It was a record for MGL at Division Ale House Tuesday. Only starting 15 minutes late, we had 11 teams! 11!!! Our brilliant teams were: Team Schwartz, Team Kenny, Team Awesome, Bacon Fire, Meetup, We Want Tasty Prizes, Birthday Suit, The Team of Lost Souls, Butch’s Bitches, My Mom, and Grenade to Landmine Free Zone.

The night was a hit! We started out with the game Urban Myth. Our teams were asked questions of differing categories and had to decide whether the statement/question was true or a myth (false). It was a VERY close game. However Meetup happened to win by two points over Team Kenny and won some snazzy Division Ale House t-shirts.

We continued on to Round 2 with the game Categorically Speaking. This round was mighty feisty! All our teams were on edge and ready to win some prizes and seriously used their style points. We even had a sneak attack BBQ while the answers for question 6 were being scored. Team Awesome was the winner of a tasty round of PBR. Birthday Suit won PBR for winning Round 2 after a tie-breaker with Grenade to Landmine Free Zone but Grenade won the actual BBQ in the game and got a sweet round of draft beers!

We ended the night with the classic game Family Feud. Style points were awarded throughout this game, and it definitely paid off! This round was seriously close, but Meetup was the winner and gained some shots. After going through the overall score Birthday Suit won! It was all the better that it was one of the team member’s birthdays so EVERYONE sang “Happy Birthday” to him!

What a great crowd, and a great night! This week gets the cake!

Until next week, this is Alexis

Another great week at Bar Louie as we beat the heat with some cooooooool trivia!!

In round 1 we played Urban Myth.  Great Gatsby and The Big O placed high but it was Suck It Dry that scored a perfect round and won some drinks!

Categorically Speaking was our round 2 game.  I love this game because I get such unique answers…. Yes, I guess a jock strap could be considered a container… of sorts…. ish….. The Squirrels were racing towards the finish with high points along with Space Shuttle but once again it was Suck It Dry that took the win.

Family Feud was last and well worth the wait! Will Never Lose joined in and gave We Are Fun 2 Us some steep competition.  The Big O pulled ahead at the last minute and took the win for the round!

Overall winners by a long shot was Suck It Dry!

Thanks to everyone for coming out! I’ll see you all next week, same bat time, same bat place!

A Birthday At Dickens in Longmont
Aug 25th, 2010 by Brian

The Zipperheads, along with the rest of the trivia crew, celebrated Evan’s birthday last Tuesday at Dickens in Longmont. It wasn’t our most PG night…. But we all had a good time.

Round 1, we kicked things off with Urban Myth. There were a lot of cheers, and a few sighs, as curveballs sent teams all over the place. Ultimately, Venus Fly Traps took the round.

Second round, we played Categorically Speaking. BR had the most answers go into “deliberation” and had the rest of the bar laughing too. We heard everything from couch wrestling to “tongue games” which came from Team 23 who won the round.

The BBQ went to a member of Zipperheads, starting their streak.

Round 3, we played my favorite game, Family Feud. The Hop Along Gang had a strong showing, but the round came down to Zipperheads and Swagless, Zipperheads took the round.

Tough competition at The Spot
Aug 23rd, 2010 by KevinMc

Saturday at the The Spot saw some fierce competition in round one’s game of MadGab. Teams HeeBee and Hippo stayed neck and neck to a tie breaking playoff, which HeeBee took down for a free pitcher.

Round two came around with a game of word up, and some interesting attempts at words. Professor Chaos joined the madness this round, but HeeBee was unstoppable and pulled out a big lead in round 2 for another free pitcher or appetizer.

Our BBQ went to Bobby, way to go!

Round three’s game of Start2Finish was neck and neck between all teams, including the late arriving Cardinals. Although Fred, Better than U, and Hippo tried their best, they couldn’t beat out HeeBee, who’s mad winning streak continued for another free pitcher/appetizer.

To no surprise the overall winners were team HeeBee, taking down a $25 gift card in addition to all three rounds…..watch out for these guys!

Amptly = Amp+Aptly… or does it?
Aug 23rd, 2010 by TaylorG

I had an awesome time subbing this week at Old C’s!! I got to see a lot of old faces that I had been missing!!

In round 1 our game was Mad Gab.  It was great with almost all the teams tied for first except for Longhorn and Yes That who took down the round by  using her email bonus!!

In round 2 we played WordUp which brought out the competitive… and creative… sides of our teams!  buck Forty Five and Tyler Stinks were playing for keeps but it was You Can’t Postpone the Destiny and SAAD that battled it out for first with YCPTD taking the win.

Our BBQ was won by I Need More Cowbell!

I got a little nervous as we played Start2Finish for round 3.  All of our teams were doing so well that I thought we were going to have to go to sudden death!  Action Jackson, Lemurs, Shoe and Yes That were all in the running but turning in a last second email bonus answer was I Need More Cowbell which put them over the top by a half of a point!

Overall for the night Yes That took first!

Thank you all for coming out! I was great to see you all!
