Wearing a target on your chest in a bar is, ummm, questionable.
Ramrod - Two heads are better than one
2 Guys & A Girl - how'd she get neon things in her hair?
BR - tonight that stands for Beat the Rest
Green Chitlyns and Harmony
Cannons - loose? I don't know
It's My Birthday - working on her bday drink
Butterflys and Unicorns - and rainbows and flowers and...
You would think we’ve been playing here forever. Tons of teams and some good old fashioned rivalry were brewin’ and making for a great time. Maybe it was because we had the Cinemark gift card to add to the mix.
The teams tonight that were knockin’ back beers and knockin’ down the answers were: 2 Guys and a Girl, Ramrod, But-or-fly, BR, Praise Be To Tebow, Unicorns, SSM, BJ’s, It’s My Birthday, Green Chitlyns, Delta Awesomeness, and Cannons.
Round 1 and Tribond got things started. The last few questions separated the pack, but it still came down to a 4-way tie. But after the tie-break, Unicorns was standing at the top, beating out But-or-fly, BR and Praise B2 Tebow.
Round 2 was Don’t Quote Me and saw a few new teams in the mix. And scores were all across the board but the use of the Email Extra pulled BR to the forefront. Just what he needed to edge out Unicorns and SSM.
For the BBQ, Jerry from But-or-fly was just 2 off. Nice one!
So for round 3 was WordSweep and a chance to score up to 3 points each question. So teams were bringing it. And each round the number of teams grew – from 8 to 9 to 10. And it was a heartbreaker when a handful of teams raced in their answer for the last question but wrote down GIFT instead of GIVE (which matters in this game of sequential words!) So BR edged out Delta Awesomeness by 1/2 point. Arrgghh! And close on their heels was 2 Guys and a Girl, But-or-fly, Praise B2 Tebow, and Unicorns.
So it was no surprise that the one man juggernaut, BR, took top points and most of the swag for the evening. Next week will be a grudge match I’m sure. Bring it!
Till next week then.
Ciao for now,
- Keith
Teams U and OMG - the letter gang
Janelle - somehow I don't think they're bothnamed Janelle
Salvador - and his dolly?
Teams Josh and Foo combined - Josh Foo?
The Erins - there's a story here somewhere
Chuck Steaks - tasty and smart
Green Chitlyns - green's my favorite color
BR - that should be short for BEER
“Creepy things in a bathroom” was our final question of the evening and provided enough funny answers to prove that I’m not coming to any of your houses.
And the houses I’m not coming to? They were: JoBros, Josh Foo, Awesome, The Erins, McDoolska, BR, Chuck Steaks, Denise, Nancy, OMG, Paul, Team U, Green Chitlyns, Janelle, Turtles, Your Mom, and Salvador.
We started with ReFraze and it made for a close, close race, but BR pulled out his email extra early to vault past JoBros‘ perfect score to get 9.5 points. Wow, nice move. And thanks to JoBros this was the round were everyone was figuring out different ways to incorporate “your face” in their answers.
Round 2 challenged everyone with their music knowledge – and although every team had their specialty Chuck Steaks had the most general knowledge and separated themselves from the crowd to take round 2.
And for the BBQ – we had one person guessed 2.5 over and one guessed 2.5 under… so we gave them both drinks! Good guessing BR and OMG.
Round 3 was definitely the highlight of the evening, with tons of funny, funny answers that had everyone laughing. We saw some different teams leap to the fore as they had the skills of picking popular answers: The Erins, Denise, Jacob, but by one point Turtles grabbed the final round.
So who was going away with top points for the evening? It was Chuck Steaks! Way to play tough. See it sometimes pays to name your daughter after Natalie Maines from Dixie Chicks.
What a night. Only our second night there and 3 return teams, and I think we got a lot of new converts this night as well. Looking forward to seeing who’s got game next week.
Team BR - notice the gold stein?
Fortune - trying to bring their own luck tonight
Cain Pain - a hink pink couple fo'sho'
Short Chicks - chicks? yes. short? hard to tell
Pretty good for our first night at Old Chicago on Academy in Co. Springs. We had 9 teams flow through the bar like so many beers on tap. We had Jo Bros, Navy 1 and Navy 2 (kinda like Thing 1 and Thing 2), Sanderson, BR, Short Chicks, Cain Pain, Fortune and Car Ramrod.
It was certain to be a good time, as we had people asking where MGL was before we started. And we got underway with Hink Pink, the funny rhyming game. We saw quite a few style point answers. With throwing out an extra point for signing up on the first night for Email Extras and Brainy Points, we had BR score 10! And Jo Bros were only a 1/2 point behind them and Short Chicks just a tad behind them.
Then we headed into round 2 and Balderdash, the game of definitions. And here is where Sanderson showed some creative muscle turning in some great style point answers. But it only earned them second as BR had a perfect round.
As we entered the late night happy hour some more teams joined the fray, and replaced some of the ones who had been there for awhile and had to leave. Both Fortune and Ramrod were determined to give BR a challenge.
And to prove it, one of the guys from Ramrod won the BBQ, beating BR and a handful of others who were fairly close.
So onto round 3 and Eye Know, with it’s multi-part visual trivianess. And BR and the new contenders proved that they indeed have the goods. Fortune had 17 pts and Ramrod and BR tied with 18. And after the tie-break, Ramrod claimed round 3. So the schoolin’ that BR was given to everyone, well, let’s just say ’schools out’.
But with the late starts for the newcomers, there was no way to catch BR for top points overall.
So everyone better be here for the start next week. Right?! I hope so – I’d love to see JoBros, Cain Pain, Fortune and Ramrod put up full round numbers next week, so BR has something to worry about.
Will you be there? Hopin’ so.
Well, another night of battle at Old Chicago in Broomfield. And the teams were out in full force. Tonight we had: Suckiest Ninjas, Turbo Stuff, WombastCast.com, Lucas, Put Yo Junk in the Box, Yes That, BISP, The Shaws, Pop Rocks, Live Weak, Go Rockies, B-S-Pie, and Undecided.
The teams took to the style points immediately as we got Catch My Drift, a game of urban slang, got underway. Almost all the teams were within 1.5 points of the leader. So round 1 was super close, but surprisingly had no tie. Turbo Stuff won fair and square.
Squeeze Phrase proved a bit more challenging and we had two teams in the lead at the end: BISP and Turbo Stuff – and Turbo won again, from the play off question.
We tossed out the BBQ to a lot of answerers but Zack Williams was only 2 years off from the answer.
Round 3 turned out to be pretty easy for this group of brainiacs, and we headed into a massive tie-break with six teams – Turbo Stuff, Put Yo Junk, Yes That, BISP, Live Weak, and Undecided. Yes That did use their email extra but since so many teams were here for their first MGL show we awarded a prize to Yes That but still tossed out the play off question for yet another prize! The play off yielded a winner which was Put Yo Junk.
But in the end, the winner of the first two rounds, took top prize tonight – Turbo Stuff. A good win, but not quite a clean sweep. Maybe next week?
Smoking the W*** - I'm sure just for medicial purposes, right?
Team Smiley - they couldn't resist playing 'It Fits'
Celtic - bikers, brains, and beer. good combo.
Gin and Tonic - which is which?
SAAD - Submitting Awesome Answers Daily,... I think
Farva - that's what you combine Larva and Fun... hmmm.
If we were playing It Fits and the categories were 1) Is new. 2) Can be found at night. 3) Involves alcohol. 4) Makes people laugh… then the answer would be Mind Games Live at Old Chicago in Broomfield.
Yes, it was our debut night at this Old Chicago and the teams were ready for us!
It was a night of lucky sevens, as 7 teams played each and every round. We started the evening playing Finish Lines and 6 teams finished within one point of each other: Gin & Tonic, Farva, B-Bombs, Bevo, Celtic and SAAD. G&T and Bevo had to duel it out with a tie-break and Bevo won themselves some suds.
Round 2 was 1 Taco Short of a Combination, which besides having an awesome name is an awesome game. Again a close, close race which much of the same faces in the mix, but this time Gin & Tonic took the prize.
We tossed out a Bonus Booze Question and a member of Farva won. And it got three more teams to join the mix: Springsteen is Not the Boss of Me, Smoking the W*** and Smiley. Which was great ’cause B-Bombs and Bevo bowed out as well as Suckiest Ninjas (they were too busy serving us).
And finally we finished with It Fits, was an appropriate finish since everyone was laughing so much – it just plum wore us out! It’s the only game I know where an answer such as “soap that shoots bullets from a dead squirrel” is acceptable. And we had several appearances of ‘my Mom’ and ‘dead hookers’ as well. But when the laughing subsided and we tallied up the scores it was SAAD that captured the round.
But it wasn’t enough to catch Gin & Tonic who won the entire evening by 1/2 point!
And thanks go out to Trivia Newton John, Celtic, Springsteen, and Smoking for some especially funny answers.
I plan on repeating the fun mayhem next week. How ’bout you? It’s a date then.
070707 - hope to see you next week from some Congrats!
Naughty Natives - debbie does the natives?
Pool Sharks - how 'bout MGL sharks?
Smoking Shooters - what kind of smoking? what kind of shooters?
Barb - team gets named 'Barb' but she won't let me take a pic. What's with that?
Oddfellows - well, there's three of you you. that kinda 'odd'?
V-giny - I'm sure I never got your name quite right. Try again next week?
Buds Wiser - you, sir, are a trouble-maker... love it!
There is something about the McCarthy’s crowd. They love their style points. They love to trash talk. And they love to laugh. That’s a great combo in my book.
It was a solid crowd with many regulars and a handful of soon-to-be regulars, that included: Buds Wiser, Pool Sharks, Naughty Natives, Oddfellows, Barb, Smoking Shooters, V-giny, Shanthew and 070707.
We got it underway with Urban Myth, and there is plenty of cocktail knowledge packed away in that game. It kept everyone on their toes. But when the dust settled, Pool Sharks had a slim lead of one point. They had just edged out V-giny, Oddfellows, Buds Wiser, Smoking Shooters and Naughty Natives.
Round 2 was Pass the Popcorn and drew a cheer from our movie lovin’ crowd. Naughty Natives were feeling confident, but they got caught with V-giny and Pool Sharks just off the lead. It was Smoking Shooters who showed everyone else up. This was not the strongest showing for Buds Wiser but he did contribute a style point avalanche as centered around Debbie Does… which got everyone into it and laughing.
The BBQ went to one of the Naughty Natives who just threw out an out-of-left-field guess before she stepped outside, and oddly enough, no one else was closer. Funnnnyyy!
So how were things going to end? Red-White-Blue was our game, pre-Independence Day. 070707 joined and posted a good score for first-timers. And everyone was nailing the answers. And down to the wire it came, and here’s where everyone learned the value of the Email Extra. Just off the pace this round were, Oddfellows, Barb, Smoking Shooters, V-giny, and Shanthew. But the Email Extra put 3 teams in the forefront when it came to scoring. Our veterans – Pool Sharks, Buds Wiser, and Naughty Natives – duked it out and Buds Wiser captured Round 3.
And total top points went to Pool Sharks.
As always, it was a hoot. Let’s laugh again next week.
We Dunno - I dunno either. you shoulda won something!
Happy Hour Hookers - yes, it's all about the happy hour!
2 Girls anda Grown *** Man - can you guess which one he is?
Dynamic Duo - 'duo' yes, 'dynamic' well okay if you say so
Krazy Karl - especially Krazy after his Bonus Booze prize
The Bald and The Beautiful - yes, the 'more brains the merrier' works!
Wookie Cookies - is that kinda like buffalo chips?
If you play it, they will come.
We said we were debuting at Eck’s Saloon and the response was fabulous. So much so that they moved us from the front room to the more spacious back room.
We had 8 good-sized teams who moved in from outta the sun: Wookie Cookies, Dynamic Duo, Happy Hour Hookers, We Dunno, The Bald and the Beautiful, 2 Girls and a Grown-*** Man, Hong Kong Fuey, and Krazy Karl.
We used Mad Gab for round 1 to get people’s brains warmed up. The crowd proved just how serious they were. They knocked down right answers like bulls in a china shop. We had a 5-way tie for first: Wookie Cookies, Happy Hr Hookers, We Dunno, Bald & Beautiful, and Grown Man. Rnd 1 and some ruby slippers (okay, it was really some cold brews) went to Wookie Cookies after a Wizard of Oz tie-break question.
Round 2 was Famous Name Us and we started to see some slight separation between teams. The top 5 teams were only 2 points apart – but this time only 2 teams were tied. Happy Hr Hookers and Grown Man. And to make it even more gut-wrenching, the tie-break was a nail-biter. One team 3 mph off, and the other 3.8 mph off the correct tie-break answer. Grown Man earned the great grub prize.
The BBQ question had probably the greatest range of answers, but when got to the heart of it, Krazy Karl got the bonus booze.
I knew round 3 was going to be entertaining, and I was right. Funny, funny answers and lots of laughter. That’s what I like about LikeWise. It’s a game that hits every team in the funny bone. Still a close race at the end, but Bald and Beautiful eked out the win with everyone nipping at their heels.
But with an entire evening of tie-breaks and close calls, it was anybody’s game for taking Top Point honors this Sunday. And the team on top?… was Happy Hour Hookers! Great job.
5 prizes went to 5 different teams. That’s what I like, spreading the wealth! Thanks all for making it a fab debut at everyone’s favorite neighborhood bar, Eck’s!
Ciao for now.
MGL is the new 'star' at the new night at Jordinelli's
Los Losers - but not judging by the score sheet
Rebecca and team - or at least their drinks, since they were camera shy
I'll never forget Cooper - what a character!
Well, it was our first night at Jordinelli’s in Brighton, and we were fresh on the heels of Brighton’s day-long CultureFest. So the one’s who came in from the heat and to partake in some refreshing cold beverages, were sucked into the fun of Mind Games Live – and what a fun time it was!
The first round was Mad Gab and teams were off whispering in corners trying to sound out the fractured phrases to come up with the correct answers. When the dust settled, Los Losers and Me & Wife (expecting baby) tied with 8 points apiece. And after the tie-break, Los Losers captured some drinks. Rebecca and Team, were nipping at their heels.
For round 2, we tackled Famous Name Us. Kim, Denise, and Chris joined in the fray. Everyone knew a little something, but no one new it all, so the scores seesawed – but the best-of-the-best turned out to be Los Losers again. And again Rebecca and Team were close behind.
The BBQ didn’t settle anything – we ended with a tie between Sam and Mr Castro. So we gave them both drinks! That’s what I’m talking about!
And for round 3, LikeWise was the featured game. It’s all about a variety of answers and making matches, so teams ended up splitting so we could have a bushel of answers. And still when all was said and done, only 4 points separated the top from the bottom. Most players had 17 points, but Mr Castro proved that he had the goods and took the round with 18.
All in all a lot of laughs, and no surprise that Los Losers took top prize… I KNOW they’ll be back.
Looking forward to the next match up and shake down at Jordinelli’s. Till then…
I Have Too Many Legs - you mean, more than 8?
What Would Tim Tebow Do? - I dunno, try to win
Jack Me Hoff - 'nuff said
Beer Me - no, no, beer YOU!
Jacket Off - yes, t-shirts only
What a rockin’ opening night we had at Old Chicago on Grant in Thornton. All total 15 teams played and we had a dozen or more for the first two rounds!
Just so I don’t forget anyone, here’s the list of who played: Too Risky, Willie, Edgar Son/Wiggi, What Would Time Tebow Do?, I Have Too Many Legs, Bacon8ers, Star Stabbers, Beer Me, Jacket Off, 520, Control Freaks, It’s a Racket, Poo-Flinging Monkeys, Deja Vu, and Jack Me Hoff.
We started with the game Hink Pink, and it was clear it would be a close round as teams took right to it. And sure enough, we had a 4-way tie between Too Risky, Edgar Son, I Have Too Many Legs, and Jacket Off. Edgar Son won the first round with drinks, and promptly changed their name to Wiggi… go figure. It changed their luck heading into round 2.
We followed up with Don’t Quote Me, and found that the most difficult quotes come from scientists and entrepreneurs. But characters like Dennis Rodman and Mick Jagger, and even June Cleaver are public knowledge. Still it came down to Too Many Legs and Jacket Off fighting it out in a tie-break. The Legs had it.
So heading into the last round it was close. Real close. Legs, Tim Tebow, Beer Me, Jacket Off, 520, It’s a Racket and Poo-Flingers were all separated by just a handful of points.
Round 2 was Start 2 Finish which features a crossword-style 3-point-a-question format. And again, teams were bringing it. When the dust settled it was GOING TO BE a 3-way tie between Legs, 520 and Poo-Flingers. But Legs, being the veteran players that they are, pulled out their email extra to squeak out an uncontested win for round 3.
THAT’S WHY THE EMAIL EXTRA IS SOOOOO IMPORTANT!
Anyway with wins in rounds 2 and 3, it was Legs who took home the OC gift certificate for top points overall.
But it was a great time for all, with lots of bantering, shouts and laughter. I’m looking forward to it all again next week. BTW, shout outs to the funniest teams: Star Stabbers, It’s a Racket and Deja Vu, for keeping us in stitches.
See you then? With your Email Extra in hand?
Bleacher Bum and pals - bad night to be on the bleachers
It's MGL - any questions?
Hot Rods - racing thru round 3
So it was our first night at The Berkshire and the weather was determined to try to spoil our fun, but we weren’t having any of it. Despite the rain and snow, we posted 9 teams playing for the evening: 1 Girlie, Cousins, MMQB, Kickatonofuss, Back Juice, P-T-O, Moto Cross, Bleacher Bum, and Hot Rod.
We got everyone warmed up with Finish Lines and when the round ended only 1 pt separated our first and last place team… and we didn’t need a tie-break! Cousins proved that a varied team of young’uns and seasoned veterans can post a near perfect score… they were the only team to know the opening to the old tv show “Zorro”.
Kickatonofuss, which was working the style point angle vigorously bowed out for round 2 but we picked up Bleacher Bum.
For round 2 we tested everyone’s dictionary smarts with Balderdash, and this time we had scores running the gamut. And we found out it was going to be a night full of style points. Two teams pulled away from the pack – Moto Cross and Cousins, with Cousins again taking the round by one point. It was pack just behind them; 1 Girlie, MMQB, and P-T-O all tied for 3rd.
The BBQ also turned out to be close and I had to bring out the calculator because the 2 closest teams were almost exactly the same difference from the answer; one over and one under – It was Bleacher Bum who scored a drink.
Hot Rod joined the fray of round 3 where we brought out It Fits… and then the hilarity ensued in full! I’ve never had so many answers that I couldn’t share over the mike. People were cracking up in writing the answers and then cracking up more when they heard everyone else’s answers. Fun, fun, fun! And when the dust settled, it was another close one, and still no tie-break needed. Moto Cross one by 1 point with 1 Girlie, MMQB, Back Juice, and Bleacher Bum, just behind. And Hot Rod woulda been in the mix but they skipped a question.
And the top points for the evening it was Moto Cross walking away with the Berkshire gift card. Nice job!
And thanks everyone for making the first night at The Berkshire so funny and memorable. Looking forward to more hijinks next week… and let it pour outside ’cause we’re inside tearing it up!
