Old Chicago Broomfield – 9/4/2010
Sep 5th, 2010 by Todd

Fun night had by all. Though it felt slow compared to some of the crazy nights we’ve had before, we still racked up 13 teams throughout the evening, 11 of which played all 3 rounds!!! In the first round we played a little game called Finish Lines. 11 teams played hard, but ultimately there had to be a winner. With three attempts to win the game with an Email Extra, only one team proved to be the best, and the best team was BISP! Moving into round two we played Go Mental, and boy oh boy did Old Chicago ever go mental over this round! With big scores across the board the winning team turned out to be Biziva (a team that originally wasn’t sure if they were gonna play!) Up next we played our Bonus Booze Question. For this one, the scores weren’t even close! The winner proved triumphant as Marge from Lemurs took the free drink (and gave it to one of her teammates since she doesn’t drink.) Now it’s time for round three, the end all be all of the evening. Playing Making The List the scores were skewed across the board. This was a doozy to tally. In the end, thanks to two last minute Email Extra points there was a tie between Yes That (veteran winners of MGL) and newcomers Lemurs. In the tie breaker we discovered that the phrase “out with the old in with the new” isn’t just a saying, yes Lemurs takes the round!!! And finally (get ready here’s a shocker) the big winners for the evening were between two teams that never won a round! M&M vs. Yes That. After tallying the scores, Yes That emerged triumphant! But wait, M&M calls the score-sheets into question! After a double count and technicality deliberation, M&M wins the night!!! M&M gets the $20 gift certificate to Old Chicago, and not only that! Turns out tonight was different from any other night as we also gave M&M a movie bundle package to AMC Cinemas!!! Way to go M&M! It seems a battle to the bitter end! See you next week!

Battle of the B’s at Bar Bouie! I mean… Louie…

Another great night at Bar Louie on Monday!

In round 1 we played Finish Lines and had some very interesting quotes for style points!  It was close between teams SCDP, Bob’s a Douche, Burnet the House Down, and Beauty and the Beast but it was Boss of the Plains that won the round by using their email bonus!

Round 2 was Go Mental where again our teams were super close! Emifred and The Winners tried catching up to Lemurs but with no luck giving them the win!

Round 3 was a little game we like to call Making the List.  BL Crew and JTT were handing in come crazy answers and Lemurs was making a run for it… Boss of the Plains should have changed their name to Boss of the round because they KILLED it nailing several of the high point questions for maximum points!  It was also enough to push them ahead to win the night!!

Thank you all for coming out! There WILL be a game on Monday (labor day) for those of you who were asking!

It was another great night of Mind Games Live at Old Chicago on North Academy in Colorado Springs. We started out with a game of Urban Myths; which asked if such statements, as in the title of this blog post, were true or myth. This was a big hit and high scoring. It came down to a three way tie for first place between Team Kirk & Patty, Team Late (aka Team Josh) and Team BR, when Team Late used his email extra. However, before the scores were announced, Team BR also used his email extra to win round 1; which was a pitcher of beer.

Round 2 came down to another tie for first place, between Team BR and Team Late, when we played Categorically Speaking. Team BR and Team Late fought for first place, with Team Kirk & Patty and Team Shane coming up in 2nd and 3rd places respectively. A play off ensued with the question being the number of months an average $100 bill stays in circulation. Team Late came closest, winning an appetizer coupon. Rich of Team BR won the BBQ individual drink, when he guessed the correct answer to the percentage of U.S. exports that go to Canada (2007).

Round 3 was the game Family Feud and found a bunch of new teams joining in; with Dr. W, Dirty Socks, Ramrod, and Dandk. Team Dirty Socks won the round; a $10 food and beverage coupon, with Team BR coming in a close second place, and teams Ramrod and Dandk tying for third place. Team BR was the overall winner for the night, coming in with 59 points and winning a coupon for a large pizza.

Other teams to play during the evening were Team 14 Teenagers and Team DVDA. It was a great night of Mind Games Live, thanks to all the teams for coming out and playing. We’ll see you this coming Wednesday at 9:00pm at Old Chicago’s on North Academy in Colorado Springs.

Another great week at Bar Louie as we beat the heat with some cooooooool trivia!!

In round 1 we played Urban Myth.  Great Gatsby and The Big O placed high but it was Suck It Dry that scored a perfect round and won some drinks!

Categorically Speaking was our round 2 game.  I love this game because I get such unique answers…. Yes, I guess a jock strap could be considered a container… of sorts…. ish….. The Squirrels were racing towards the finish with high points along with Space Shuttle but once again it was Suck It Dry that took the win.

Family Feud was last and well worth the wait! Will Never Lose joined in and gave We Are Fun 2 Us some steep competition.  The Big O pulled ahead at the last minute and took the win for the round!

Overall winners by a long shot was Suck It Dry!

Thanks to everyone for coming out! I’ll see you all next week, same bat time, same bat place!

I had an awesome time subbing this week at Old C’s!! I got to see a lot of old faces that I had been missing!!

In round 1 our game was Mad Gab.  It was great with almost all the teams tied for first except for Longhorn and Yes That who took down the round by  using her email bonus!!

In round 2 we played WordUp which brought out the competitive… and creative… sides of our teams!  buck Forty Five and Tyler Stinks were playing for keeps but it was You Can’t Postpone the Destiny and SAAD that battled it out for first with YCPTD taking the win.

Our BBQ was won by I Need More Cowbell!

I got a little nervous as we played Start2Finish for round 3.  All of our teams were doing so well that I thought we were going to have to go to sudden death!  Action Jackson, Lemurs, Shoe and Yes That were all in the running but turning in a last second email bonus answer was I Need More Cowbell which put them over the top by a half of a point!

Overall for the night Yes That took first!

Thank you all for coming out! I was great to see you all!

Word Up in the Hizzo… and by Hizzo I mean Bar Louie
Aug 20th, 2010 by TaylorG

Bar Louie was packed this week as we gave away more movie tickets for the summer of swag!!

Round 1 started off with Mad Gab where everyone tied for first except Jethro-Eri, Stars and Moon, and NeRB. Winning the tie break was Sunzilla.

Word Up was the game for round 2 and it was a good race.  High Five Kat!, Jen-Lo, and Butter’s Bottom came close but it was Sunzilla who won the round again!

Finally in round 3 we finished off with Start 2 Finish.  Jamestic was fighting off teams DJ, Kish and J&J Take over the world, but sneaking into first place in the round was Twisted Turbans.

Our overall winners for the night were Jen-Lo by one point!

Thanks to everyone for coming out! I’ll see you all next week, same bat time, same bat place.

Race to the Answer!
Aug 19th, 2010 by Shannon

We had some good natured team competition at Old Chicago’s in Colorado Springs last night. Teams Mojo and The Goonies raced to get their answer sheets to me first. However, there was no prize for who got there first, except bragging rights; which seemed more than enough for the two teams.

We started out with a game of Mad Gab and ended up with a tie for second place with Chicken Little and Tests 123. We also had a 4 way tie for first place between Moms & Son, Mojo, BR, and The Goonies, until BR decided to use his email extra for 1 point and the win. The next game up was Word Up, with The Goonies taking 3rd place, Chicken Little in 2nd place and BR winning the round. The winner of the BBQ was JoAnn from team Chicken Little. The game for round 3 was Start 2 Finish, it came down to some tough competition with team Chicken Little in 3rd place, followed by team Katie in 2nd place and team BR coming in first place, as well as the overall winner for the night.

Other teams playing during the evening were teams Ducksnorts, ZigZag, and Random. It was a fun evening of Mind Games Live, thanks to all the teams for coming out and playing. I’ll be at Old Chicago’s on Austin Bluffs in the Springs this coming Wednesday at 9:00pm, hope to see you all next week!

Battling the Rockies at Old Chicago- Broomfield 8/14
Aug 15th, 2010 by Todd

Two weeks in a row the Colorado Rockies played before gametime. Two weeks in a row the Rockies battled it out into extra innings. Two weeks in a row the Rockies lost. And two weeks in a row we at Old Chicago in Broomfield proved that the Rockies can’t get us down!!! We had an amazing night! 14 Teams and three hours of non-stop shenanigans!!! Once again our lovely waitstaff (aka The Suckiest Ninjas) returned to play along with some other bigtime veterans, Yes That. We also had Just The Tip, Longhorn, Golden Eagles, Knox, Who’s Your Daddy, J-Wow, Jordan, 4Sum, I Love Beer, M&M’s, Double Musket, and Butters. We began the night with a solid round of Wuzzles. Right from the get go it was clear that this was not going to be an ordinary night. All three rounds proved to be more difficult than usual causing a low-scoring evening across the board. For round one, not one team got a perfect score (a first the this location!) That said the game was played with fierce diligence as Yes That and J-Wow tied for first place at 8.5 points each. Once again however the winner was not however decided by a tie-breaker but instead by the team who had signed up for the Email Extra. Once again Yes That pulls out that extra point when they needed it, and they won the round, and the beer! Round Two we played a little Famous Name Us. This round really stumped quite a few teams. We had some low numbers and some relatively high numbers. But ultimately there had to be a winner, and once again it was Yes That with 16 points. But the big shocker was Golden Eagles who came back from a low scoring Round One to only losing this time by half a point!! Yes That gets the appetizer! The BBQ (Bonus Beer Question) through off the whole bar with a massive range of guesses to what the answer could be. However someone had to win, and it had to be one of I Love Beer’s best and brightest. With a name like I Love Beer, try and guess what drink they decided to claim? Heh. And now for Round Three, the big one! We played a little game called out of order, and boy oh boy did this get wallop the bar! We had scores as low as 2 points, and the best of the bar could only get eight (even with extra style point questions thrown in to increase the opportunity!) That said we had ourselves a tie and finally a battling tie breaker to determine the winner. Once again J-Wow found themselves in the tie, but this time Yes That was not the big number team, no it was Golden Eagle! And with a tricky tie-breaking question, the winner emerged. Golden Eagle!!!
Now there was only one winner left, the big winner, the winner for the entire night. After a lot of difficult addition the answer was clear. YES THAT!!! With two rounds claiming the prize, they really took the advantage. But the real shocker was Golden Eagle, who only lost by one point! And as a reminder, they had an extremely difficult first round, so they really had to pull a great comeback to get that close to the prize. Great job Golden Eagle, but Yes That takes the cake!

Now for the bad news. As announced last night, I will not be hosting Mind Games Live next week. Not to fear, we will provide a guest host to fill in for me while I’m away and I will be back in two weeks. For next week I will be performing in a show titled Woe To The Conquered at the Boulder Fringe Festival (shameless plug). But fret not, the show will have many different performance dates, so you can still hit Old Chicago for some Mind Games next Saturday and find time to see my show (shameless.) So until the 28th, I’m counting on everyone to play hard and be ready for my return. Keep those seats warm at Old Chicago, I won’t be gone for long.

The Roasters

The Jell-O Shooters

Team Double J

The BJ's (short for Brian Joseph)

Team TBA

Team Distinguished

It was a rocking good time out in The Spot In Golden last night for some hot brain-on-brain action with Mind Games Live.  For our first round (the appetizer) we had some WuzzlesTeam Bartender was busy doing his job (bar-tending) but did manage to get five points.  Ahead of him were the Roasters, and then Skoolin’ UTeam TBA and Distinguished managed to tie for third place with 8 points.  The BJ’s grabbed second with an impressive 8 1/2, but it was the crafty group of Jell-O Shooters who took the round with a perfect score.

For the entree round we had a dish of Famous Name Us.  A couple of new teams joined us late in the round: Suck It, Trebek and Team Double J.  Both answering the three questions they arrived for correctly.  The Roasters continued to rack up points, coming in third.  The BJ’s and Distinguished tied for second with fifteen points apiece, while Skoolin’ U and The Jell-O Shooters managed to share the top scores with just one more point.  These close scores are why it’s important to remember your e-mail extra!  A Play-Off ensued and Skoolin’ U managed to win the free pitcher by guessing closest to the right percentage of Caucasians in America.

Time for a Bonus Beer Question, and Dylan from Team Distinguished managed to get himself a little extra something to drink.

Four dessert we finished off with a course of Out Of Odrer, I mean Out Of OrderSuck It Trebek got a lucky thirteen points this round.  The BJ’s coming up after them.  With 25, 26, and 27 points respectively were Skoolin’ U, The Jell-O Shooters and Team Distinguished.  But making up for the lost time were last round’s late arrivals Team Double J taking the round with 30 points.

The full three courses of MGL feasting over it was time to tally up the scores and see who won.  Once again, it all came down to one point with the Jell-O Shooters edging out Team Distinguished 51 to 50.  Don’t forget to bring in that Email Extra, folks!  And I will see you all again at the Spot real soon.

MGL’s Fourth Week in Colorado Springs
Aug 14th, 2010 by Shannon

It was another great night at Old Chicago’s in Colorado Springs.  This was my first evening of running MGL all the way through and the fourth week of MGL being in the Springs.

We started out with a game of Wuzzles, the winner was team BR, with team Shane coming in second place.  For round 2, we played Famous Name Us, team BR won, with second place going to team Josh.  The winner of the BBQ was team Alex, coming closest to the number of Starbucks in the world.

The competition got tough in round 3 with the game Out of OrderTeam Chick & Dick took third place, team T.P. in the F.B. and team Matt tied for second place, BR used his email extra to tie team Alex for first place.  A play off ensued with Alex coming closer to the answer of the percentage of California’s population born outside the U.S., according to the 2004 census.

Team Alex won round 3 and BR was the overall winner of the night, other teams playing during the evening were teams Matt, Oreo, Darren, PVC HC, and AZN.  It was a fun evening of Mind Games Live, thanks to all the teams for coming out.  I’ll be at Old Chicago’s on Austin Bluffs & N. Academy in the Springs this coming Wednesday at 9:00pm, hope to see you all next week!
