Fun night had by all. Though it felt slow compared to some of the crazy nights we’ve had before, we still racked up 13 teams throughout the evening, 11 of which played all 3 rounds!!! In the first round we played a little game called Finish Lines. 11 teams played hard, but ultimately there had to be a winner. With three attempts to win the game with an Email Extra, only one team proved to be the best, and the best team was BISP! Moving into round two we played Go Mental, and boy oh boy did Old Chicago ever go mental over this round! With big scores across the board the winning team turned out to be Biziva (a team that originally wasn’t sure if they were gonna play!) Up next we played our Bonus Booze Question. For this one, the scores weren’t even close! The winner proved triumphant as Marge from Lemurs took the free drink (and gave it to one of her teammates since she doesn’t drink.) Now it’s time for round three, the end all be all of the evening. Playing Making The List the scores were skewed across the board. This was a doozy to tally. In the end, thanks to two last minute Email Extra points there was a tie between Yes That (veteran winners of MGL) and newcomers Lemurs. In the tie breaker we discovered that the phrase “out with the old in with the new” isn’t just a saying, yes Lemurs takes the round!!! And finally (get ready here’s a shocker) the big winners for the evening were between two teams that never won a round! M&M vs. Yes That. After tallying the scores, Yes That emerged triumphant! But wait, M&M calls the score-sheets into question! After a double count and technicality deliberation, M&M wins the night!!! M&M gets the $20 gift certificate to Old Chicago, and not only that! Turns out tonight was different from any other night as we also gave M&M a movie bundle package to AMC Cinemas!!! Way to go M&M! It seems a battle to the bitter end! See you next week!
I had an awesome time subbing this week at Old C’s!! I got to see a lot of old faces that I had been missing!!
In round 1 our game was Mad Gab. It was great with almost all the teams tied for first except for Longhorn and Yes That who took down the round by using her email bonus!!
In round 2 we played WordUp which brought out the competitive… and creative… sides of our teams! buck Forty Five and Tyler Stinks were playing for keeps but it was You Can’t Postpone the Destiny and SAAD that battled it out for first with YCPTD taking the win.
Our BBQ was won by I Need More Cowbell!
I got a little nervous as we played Start2Finish for round 3. All of our teams were doing so well that I thought we were going to have to go to sudden death! Action Jackson, Lemurs, Shoe and Yes That were all in the running but turning in a last second email bonus answer was I Need More Cowbell which put them over the top by a half of a point!
Overall for the night Yes That took first!
Thank you all for coming out! I was great to see you all!
Two weeks in a row the Colorado Rockies played before gametime. Two weeks in a row the Rockies battled it out into extra innings. Two weeks in a row the Rockies lost. And two weeks in a row we at Old Chicago in Broomfield proved that the Rockies can’t get us down!!! We had an amazing night! 14 Teams and three hours of non-stop shenanigans!!! Once again our lovely waitstaff (aka The Suckiest Ninjas) returned to play along with some other bigtime veterans, Yes That. We also had Just The Tip, Longhorn, Golden Eagles, Knox, Who’s Your Daddy, J-Wow, Jordan, 4Sum, I Love Beer, M&M’s, Double Musket, and Butters. We began the night with a solid round of Wuzzles. Right from the get go it was clear that this was not going to be an ordinary night. All three rounds proved to be more difficult than usual causing a low-scoring evening across the board. For round one, not one team got a perfect score (a first the this location!) That said the game was played with fierce diligence as Yes That and J-Wow tied for first place at 8.5 points each. Once again however the winner was not however decided by a tie-breaker but instead by the team who had signed up for the Email Extra. Once again Yes That pulls out that extra point when they needed it, and they won the round, and the beer! Round Two we played a little Famous Name Us. This round really stumped quite a few teams. We had some low numbers and some relatively high numbers. But ultimately there had to be a winner, and once again it was Yes That with 16 points. But the big shocker was Golden Eagles who came back from a low scoring Round One to only losing this time by half a point!! Yes That gets the appetizer! The BBQ (Bonus Beer Question) through off the whole bar with a massive range of guesses to what the answer could be. However someone had to win, and it had to be one of I Love Beer’s best and brightest. With a name like I Love Beer, try and guess what drink they decided to claim? Heh. And now for Round Three, the big one! We played a little game called out of order, and boy oh boy did this get wallop the bar! We had scores as low as 2 points, and the best of the bar could only get eight (even with extra style point questions thrown in to increase the opportunity!) That said we had ourselves a tie and finally a battling tie breaker to determine the winner. Once again J-Wow found themselves in the tie, but this time Yes That was not the big number team, no it was Golden Eagle! And with a tricky tie-breaking question, the winner emerged. Golden Eagle!!! Now there was only one winner left, the big winner, the winner for the entire night. After a lot of difficult addition the answer was clear. YES THAT!!! With two rounds claiming the prize, they really took the advantage. But the real shocker was Golden Eagle, who only lost by one point! And as a reminder, they had an extremely difficult first round, so they really had to pull a great comeback to get that close to the prize. Great job Golden Eagle, but Yes That takes the cake!
Now for the bad news. As announced last night, I will not be hosting Mind Games Live next week. Not to fear, we will provide a guest host to fill in for me while I’m away and I will be back in two weeks. For next week I will be performing in a show titled Woe To The Conquered at the Boulder Fringe Festival (shameless plug). But fret not, the show will have many different performance dates, so you can still hit Old Chicago for some Mind Games next Saturday and find time to see my show (shameless.) So until the 28th, I’m counting on everyone to play hard and be ready for my return. Keep those seats warm at Old Chicago, I won’t be gone for long.
What a fun night had by all. The big winners for the evening were Yes That, but Monkey Girdle came in with an extremely close second. So close in fact that they would have won if they had an e-mail extra. After last night they signed up and vowed never to let that happen again. Monkey Girdle also lost round one by a hair once again because of an e-mail extra handed in at the last minute by Castration Station. Keith showed me how I could take care of them so there would be no concerns (especially since I announced them the winner just before Castration Station handed in the email extra. My bad.) So Monkey Girdle still got some free beers. In round two, Yes That took the win and satisfied themselves with a lovely appetizer. I don’t know what they got, but I hope it was the Italian Nachos (imagine nachos with all the usual helpings AND pepperoni and sausages!!! Amazing!!!) Moving on the BBQ. Last night we had a tie between one member Castration Station and Jerry from It’s Jerry’s Birthday. I asked how old Jerry turned, but the best Jerry’s group could figure was that he fought in the war… The Revolutionary War! Finally Monkey Girdle pulled a stellar win in round 3, which had been secretly expected all night. I believe a congratulations is in order here, because all of the nine other teams contended so well against Monkey Girdle and their secret weapon, aka one of their players just won over $70,000 playing on the game show Jeopardy where he went home a winner 3 times!!! The big shock, is that I’m not joking. So my hat is off to Castration Station and Yes That for contending against such a powerhouse of trivia.
Well, another night of battle at Old Chicago in Broomfield. And the teams were out in full force. Tonight we had: Suckiest Ninjas, Turbo Stuff, WombastCast.com, Lucas, Put Yo Junk in the Box, Yes That, BISP, The Shaws, Pop Rocks, Live Weak, Go Rockies, B-S-Pie, and Undecided.
The teams took to the style points immediately as we got Catch My Drift, a game of urban slang, got underway. Almost all the teams were within 1.5 points of the leader. So round 1 was super close, but surprisingly had no tie. Turbo Stuff won fair and square.
Squeeze Phrase proved a bit more challenging and we had two teams in the lead at the end: BISP and Turbo Stuff – and Turbo won again, from the play off question.
We tossed out the BBQ to a lot of answerers but Zack Williams was only 2 years off from the answer.
Round 3 turned out to be pretty easy for this group of brainiacs, and we headed into a massive tie-break with six teams – Turbo Stuff, Put Yo Junk, Yes That, BISP, Live Weak, and Undecided. Yes That did use their email extra but since so many teams were here for their first MGL show we awarded a prize to Yes That but still tossed out the play off question for yet another prize! The play off yielded a winner which was Put Yo Junk.
But in the end, the winner of the first two rounds, took top prize tonight – Turbo Stuff. A good win, but not quite a clean sweep. Maybe next week?
Ciao for now,
- Keith
Smoking the W*** - I'm sure just for medicial purposes, right?
Team Smiley - they couldn't resist playing 'It Fits'
Celtic - bikers, brains, and beer. good combo.
Gin and Tonic - which is which?
SAAD - Submitting Awesome Answers Daily,... I think
Farva - that's what you combine Larva and Fun... hmmm.
If we were playing It Fits and the categories were 1) Is new. 2) Can be found at night. 3) Involves alcohol. 4) Makes people laugh… then the answer would be Mind Games Live at Old Chicago in Broomfield.
Yes, it was our debut night at this Old Chicago and the teams were ready for us!
It was a night of lucky sevens, as 7 teams played each and every round. We started the evening playing Finish Lines and 6 teams finished within one point of each other: Gin & Tonic, Farva, B-Bombs, Bevo, Celtic and SAAD. G&T and Bevo had to duel it out with a tie-break and Bevo won themselves some suds.
Round 2 was 1 Taco Short of a Combination, which besides having an awesome name is an awesome game. Again a close, close race which much of the same faces in the mix, but this time Gin & Tonic took the prize.
We tossed out a Bonus Booze Question and a member of Farva won. And it got three more teams to join the mix: Springsteen is Not the Boss of Me, Smoking the W*** and Smiley. Which was great ’cause B-Bombs and Bevo bowed out as well as Suckiest Ninjas (they were too busy serving us).
And finally we finished with It Fits, was an appropriate finish since everyone was laughing so much – it just plum wore us out! It’s the only game I know where an answer such as “soap that shoots bullets from a dead squirrel” is acceptable. And we had several appearances of ‘my Mom’ and ‘dead hookers’ as well. But when the laughing subsided and we tallied up the scores it was SAAD that captured the round.
But it wasn’t enough to catch Gin & Tonic who won the entire evening by 1/2 point!
And thanks go out to Trivia Newton John, Celtic, Springsteen, and Smoking for some especially funny answers.
I plan on repeating the fun mayhem next week. How ’bout you? It’s a date then.
How/What Are You're Chi-Chi's Doing? - they couldn't decide How or What
Super Awesome Cool Robot Ninja Monkey Seat Stampers - whew, I've got carpal tunnel just typing their name
It's My Party And I'll Do What I Want To - It was Lyndsy's party and she did do what she wanted to - win a prize!
Goat Ears - name? don't know, didn't ask, afraid to find out
Bacon - FYI, the brains of the outfit has her head on the table
Wise Guys - well, not just guys obviously, but wise enough to score a prize
Well, I brought my old self down to Broomfield for our debut at The Old Man… and what a lively show it turned out to be. I emphasized style points at the outset and the crowd delivered. Some of the funniest stuff I’ve ever seen!
We started and ended with 7 teams! Everyone played the entire night. We had SACRNMSS (see picture and caption on the side – and you thought Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a mouthful), Bacon, It’s My Party and I’ll Do What I Want To, How/What Are Your Chi-chi’s Doing?, BudsForBoobs.com (sorry, somehow missed your pic), Goat Ears, and Wise Guys.
Round 1 was Fact or Crap (true or false for the unitiated), and other than being fun just to say ‘crap’ a lot, the teams were having fun with this. Although you might think it hard to create style point in a T/F game, these teams were creative! Laughing right out of the gate. Bacon and Goat Ears lead the pack with scores of 8. SACRNMSS and BudForBoobs.com, were working the style point angle.
We moved into Famous Name Us for round 2 and scores were all over the map. Bacon pulled off a perfect 18 and It’s My Party had 16 – and drifted down to SACRNMSS who had a split of 7&7 real point and style points.
So with Family Feud, the round 3 game, coming up, and gift cards for top 3 scores for the evening at stake, teams were asked to bring it… and they did! With plenty of laughter and high spirits we charged thru round 3 and ended with… no surprise, Bacon with top points, but followed by Wise Guys and What R UR ChiChis Doing? with a late round charge, and a gaggle of teams tied all tied right behind them – Goat Ears, SACRNMSS, and It’s My Party. BudsForBoobs.com worked the style point angle, but wasn’t enough to land near the top.
So the top 3 point scorers?…
Bacon, of course. In second place was Its My Party, and in third it was Wise Guys (nice job!).
Thanks y’all for coming out and sharing some ribs, pulled pork, cold beers and some funny game playing!
We’ve got to wait a bit for LPC management to make a final decision of where we fit into their regular rotation. So we’ll keep you posted!
