Beat the bartender at the Spot!
Sep 6th, 2010 by KevinMc

Saturday was a small, but fun loving crowd at The Spot in Golden. Round one was a game of Finish Lines, which saw some fierce competition between our three teams; Bartender, Dave, and BJ Honeycut. In the end, however, it was BJ Honeycut that took down the first rounds free pitcher/appetizer.

Round two saw a little less competition in Go Mental as Bartender pulled way out in front with 13 points, to BJ’s mere 8 points. Bartender, therefore, took round 2.

Our BBQ question went to BJ Honeycut, as well as a free drink.

Round three saw BJ Honeycut leave, but entered team Ramrod to fill his place. Our game was Making The List. This round came down to the wire with a tie between Bartender and Ramrod, but Ramrod pulled through and won round three’s free pitcher/appetizer.

Our overall winner was team Bartender, way to go !!

Old Chicago Broomfield – 9/4/2010
Sep 5th, 2010 by Todd

Fun night had by all. Though it felt slow compared to some of the crazy nights we’ve had before, we still racked up 13 teams throughout the evening, 11 of which played all 3 rounds!!! In the first round we played a little game called Finish Lines. 11 teams played hard, but ultimately there had to be a winner. With three attempts to win the game with an Email Extra, only one team proved to be the best, and the best team was BISP! Moving into round two we played Go Mental, and boy oh boy did Old Chicago ever go mental over this round! With big scores across the board the winning team turned out to be Biziva (a team that originally wasn’t sure if they were gonna play!) Up next we played our Bonus Booze Question. For this one, the scores weren’t even close! The winner proved triumphant as Marge from Lemurs took the free drink (and gave it to one of her teammates since she doesn’t drink.) Now it’s time for round three, the end all be all of the evening. Playing Making The List the scores were skewed across the board. This was a doozy to tally. In the end, thanks to two last minute Email Extra points there was a tie between Yes That (veteran winners of MGL) and newcomers Lemurs. In the tie breaker we discovered that the phrase “out with the old in with the new” isn’t just a saying, yes Lemurs takes the round!!! And finally (get ready here’s a shocker) the big winners for the evening were between two teams that never won a round! M&M vs. Yes That. After tallying the scores, Yes That emerged triumphant! But wait, M&M calls the score-sheets into question! After a double count and technicality deliberation, M&M wins the night!!! M&M gets the $20 gift certificate to Old Chicago, and not only that! Turns out tonight was different from any other night as we also gave M&M a movie bundle package to AMC Cinemas!!! Way to go M&M! It seems a battle to the bitter end! See you next week!

Football and Trivia at Old Chicago in Thornton on Thursday
Sep 4th, 2010 by Brian

Last Thursday, we had plenty of cheering for our Broncos and three rounds of Mind Games at Old Chicago in Thornton.

Round 1, we kicked things off with Finish Lines. Jason Campbell Toe, What Would Beer Me Do?, and Tres Dilemmas had strong showings, but the round with to WASP aka Trophy who got their first “w”.

We played Go Mental round 2, and things were still hot with 5 Banana 5, Kesmac, and Bad Ass giving a name from the past Tim Tebo, some competition as they took the round.

The BBQ went out to two teams, Quigley Kids and Trophy.

Round 3, we played Making the list. Kick Ass, Cheeseheads, and Bulldogs racked up points, but the round went to Tim Tebo who knew his colonies.

Tim Tebo was the big winner of the night. Thanks for coming out, and we’ll see you again next week.

Patrick Carroll’s, night of Fun!
Sep 4th, 2010 by KevinMc

Patrick Carroll’s was a blast Wednesday night as we started out with a game of Finish Lines. This round was very close with the Hermits, the Half-ies, Hot Sausage, and Dude all coming very close. Still no one could stop the Terrific Toucans from taking down the $10 gift card.

Round 2 was a game of Go Mental. We had another close round for most of the teams….but the Terrific Toucans once again pulled out in front and took down another $10 gift card.

Our BBQ went to a member of team Half-ie, guessing 20K vehicles cross the golden gate bridge in the a.m. (actual was 20.9K)

Finally round 3 came around for a game of making the list, which proved difficult for some teams who decided not to finish the round. The half-ies, Hermits, and Terrific Toucans however, played the whole night. This one was very very close, but due to an e-mail extra, the Terrific Toucans took down round three as well, for another $10 gift card.

Our overall winners, no surprise here, was the Terrific Toucans. Way to go guys.

McCarthy’s

It was a great night at McCarthy’s, as is standard for Tuesday nights. :) Teams were Naughty Natives, S & T, Buds Wiser, Rusty Trombones, and Pool Sharks.  Round one was Finish Lines, to which we had a 4-way tie.  After the 3 teams in the tie had answered, we had 2 teams that were both only one away from the answer!  What’s a hostess to do?  We went into a “double jeopardy” tie-breaker (first time for everything!), and Naughty Natives wound up taking the prize for the round, a free pitcher of beer.  Phew, that was fun! :D Next round, Go Mental (love the name of that game), which the Naughty Natives won the prize for as well.  They got a free appetizer on that round, and the food at McCarthy’s is dee-lish!!  The BBQ drink went to Dave.  Round 3 was Making The List, one of our MGL originals. Buds Wiser took the $10 gift certificate on that round.  Overall, the Naughty Natives won!  The top prize for the night was a $20 off certificate for McCarthy’s, so they walked with that as well as their other goodies.  Seeya next week!

A Full House at Dickens in Longmont on Tuesday
Sep 2nd, 2010 by Brian

We had a room full of regulars on Tuesday at Dickens Tavern in Longmont, and even a guest appearance by Keith.

Round 1, we kicked things off with Finish Lines. It was a tight round, with Bondo, Hop Along, 23, and ZH barely getting edged out by Swagless and VFT for a playoff. VFT took the round and a $10 gift card.

We played Go Mental round 2, and saw a bit more of a spread. Lots of teams found “creative” categories for the round, but it came down to ZH and Hop Along, the latter of which took it.

The BBQ went to a member Bam Bam Thank You Ma’am, who beat everyone else out by almost 1.5 million.

The final round of the night, we played Making the List. A few teams pushed their luck too far, and the round went to Mo Bros with a  whopping 40 points.

The big winner of the night was ZH who kept their streak alive. Thanks for coming out, and we’ll see you again next week.

Hai Bar

Monday night was tons of fun at Hai Bar!  Teams were The G’s, Pistol Peters, and Artsy Party (they couldn’t resist after they saw how much fun it is!).  We started off with Finish Lines, which we had a tie for.  Pistol Peters won the tie and the drinks. :) Round two was Go Mental, and Pistol Peters won that round, and the appetizer, as well!  The BBQ drink went to Lynn.  Round three was Making The List, one of our MGL originals.  Stacy the bartender provided us with lots of laughs for that round. :D The G’s racked up the points and won the round, as well as the bar SWAG.  They wound up winning the overall prize, the $25 gift card also.  Hope to see you all next week!

Old Chicago Broomfield – Saturday 8/28
Aug 30th, 2010 by Todd

What a great night to be had! Fifteen teams, three rounds, and plenty to drink! This week we played Urban Myth in the first round, and what a silly round it was. Who knew no woman actually removed a man’s kidney in his sleep? Then we all joyously moved forward into Categorically Speaking. Boy oh boy did this game drive the bar mad!!! Who would’ve thought each team could lose points because of other teams? By the end the creativity of these teams were explosive! I’d write some of the brilliant answers given for you to enjoy, but I think the FCC might have to shut us down! Moving forward to the BBQ (Bonus Booze Question) we discovered that Old Chicago is not necessarily a place for football fans. When asked how many seats are in the largest football stadium, some guessed well over ONE-HUNDRED-MILLION and others guessed as low as EIGHT-THOUSAND FIVE-HUNDRED!!! Wow! Truth be told, I wouldn’t have had a clue either. In Round 3 we dusted off an oldie but a goodie with a good old Family Feud time!!! It’s always fun to discover how not in sync with the population some of my people are! But hey, that’s why I love this gig! Hosting MGL for some of the wackiest most creative people Colorado has to offer is always a pleasure I will joyously call my own.

See you next week!!!

Competition heats up at The Spot.
Aug 29th, 2010 by KevinMc

Saturday at The Spot kicked off with a game of Urban Myth. This round was a close one with 8 teams competing, and although the Deuce Droppers, Grundle Bunnies, and The Rusty Trombone all came close, it was the Jello Shooters that took down round one’s free pitcher/appetizer.

Round two proved to be an interesting round, with style points flying around like crazy in Categorically Speaking. This time What Would Jesus Brew was up in the running, but couldn’t beat out The Rusty Trombone, who took down round two and a free pitcher.

Our BBQ went to a member of What Would Jesus Brew, way to go.

Round three was a game of Family Feud. Round three saw a two way tie between Raggae and What would Jesus Brew for second, and a two way tie for first between The Rusty Trombone and the Jello shooters. However, the Jello Shooters cashed in on an e-mail extra at the last second to secure round three and another free pitcher/appetizer.

Our overall winner for the night was The Rusty Trombone! Taking down a $25 gift card to The Spot.

Style Points Galore at Old Chicago in Thornton on Thursday
Aug 27th, 2010 by Brian

We had an…. energetic crowd at Old Chicago in Thornton this past Thursday.  Things started PG and by the book, but quickly took a turn leading to a round of Family Feud that was less than family friendly.

Round 1, we played Urban Myth. It was a straightforward round, won by Laurie’s Hot (and likes acrobatic fireman) although Tootie Frooties were only one point behind.

Round 2, we played Categorically Speaking. There were a few questionable answers which went to the entire crowd for deliberation. This time, three teams went to overtime, Smothered in Buffalo Sauce, Undecided, and “…” , the latter of which won the round.

Our BBQ went to Danniele who beat out the rest of the bar by a little over ½ million.

Our third round of the night, the crowd favorite, was Family Feud. Tim Tebo and WASP had strong showings, but it came down to a tiebreaker between CJ<,Undecided, The Kesmacs, “…” and Smothered in Buffalo Sauce. CJ took the round.

The big winner of the night was “….” who won two brewery tour passes. Congratulations, and thanks for coming out.
