Old Chicago, Minneapolis, MN – May 14
May 21st, 2013 by Bre

We’ve had another prize upgrade in Uptown! Teams playing this night were: Gentleman’s Club, Mpls Millers, Prairie Fire, Bernie’s Birthing Process, Snakes on a Bar, 3 Weisemen, Jameson, Hermano, The Confusions, If She Was Only 18, and Get Floord.

In Round 1, we played Refraze. This round went straight to The Confusions who were the only team to play a perfect round and use their Email Extra. All teams now get to choose between a bucket of beer or a medium 2-topping pizza if they win rounds 1-3, and they chose the Bucket of Beer as their prize.

For Round 2, we played Word UpThis round and a bucket of beer went to Bernie’s Birthing Process!

The Bonus Beer Question and free beer went to this girrrrrrrrl from Gentleman’s Club!

In Round 3, we played Split Decision. This round ended in a tie between The Confusions and If She Was Only 18. The winner of the playoff and the bucket of beer was The Confusions!

Now, for the big winners of the evening…

We had a three-way tie for first place, so we entered a playoff round. Closest to the correct answer gets first, second closest gets second, and third closest gets third.

Third place and a $10 gift certificate to Old Chicago went to If She Was Only 18.

Second place and a $25 gift certificate to Old Chicago went to Bernie’s Birthing Process. Pardon the blur– We were too excited!!!

First place, and the $50 gift certificate to Old Chicago went to The Confusions!

Congrats to all winners! Hope to see you all again soon!

Old Chicago (Grant St), Thornton, CO – May 16
May 18th, 2013 by Brandon

WHERE DID ALL THESE TEAMS COME FROM?!? I walked into Old Chicago Thursday night to a pretty slim crowd in the bar. I guess it’ll be a mellow game, I thought as I was setting up. Then I went to hand out answer sheets and pens, and it turned out every single person but two was there to play MGL! I certainly wasn’t complaining. Our eleven teams for the night included Stone Breakers, The Human Beings, Cali Crew, Pardon Me While I Whip This Out, The Originals, Rocky Wolf, Monstarz, Lucero, Coyote, KESMAC, and Reds.

Round 1: ReFraze

Most teams were pretty good at processing these convoluted mouthfuls into common sayings and TV show/movie titles. In fact, so many teams were good at it that we had a four-way tie at the end of the round. But thanks to their knowledge of Mary Kay and sperm whale brains, The Originals took the round!

Round 2: Word Up

This is one of my favorite games that we offer. It’s the only game where teams try NOT to match answers…and the only round where teams can cancel each other’s scores out. There was certainly no tie at the end of this round. Rocky Wolf had a lucky streak, ending up in the lead by a whole five points!

Rocky Wolf

Round 3: Split Decision

Peewee Gaskins…soft skin peeler…The Human Iceberg…Chicken Soup for the Chiropractic Soul? If you knew who/what the hell these are, then chances are this round was for you. Worth mentioning is the strange phenomenon of every team ending this round with either 15 or 16 points. What??? After another tie-breaker question, KESMAC took the win!

High scores:

3rd place: KESMAC (33 points)

2nd place: Rocky Wolf (35.5 points)

1st place: The Originals (36 points)

Reds

Monstarz

Pardon Me While I Whip This Out

The Human Beings

Cali Crew

We had a quick night this time to allow for the Minnesota Wild hockey game on TV! Teams playing this night were: 3 Weisemen, Snakes on a Bar, Irving United, The Millers, Never Nudes, Gentleman’s Club, G & B, and Cubby.

In Round 1, our only round, we played Where in the World. Then we ran through the BBQ and here are how the prizes were awarded:

The BBQ and free beer went to Mike U!

Fourth place and a $10 gift certificate to Old Chicago went to Snakes on a Bar, coming in at 11 total points.

Second and third place and a $25 gift certificate to Old Chicago each went to The Millers and Never Nudes, coming in at 12 total points each.

First place, a $25 gift certificate to Old Chicago and a bucket of beer went to Cubby, coming in at 13 total points!

Congrats to all winners! Hope to see you all again soon!

Happy Mother’s Day Weekend!
May 12th, 2013 by Paul

Happy Mother’s Day from Mind Games Live and Old Chicago Broomfield!  We had 14 teams join us on Saturday night for our 3 rounds of fun. Our first round was the word game Take Your Best Shot. Our teams were very punny and smart enough to decipher our multiple choice answers.  The Lemurs had a perfect round and scored 9 points.  Cool Runnings, Wrong Hole, and Rod Stewarts all used their Email Extra bonus point to force a 4-way playoff.

Our second round featured the game Where in the World. If teams guest the location correctly on the first clue they got 2 points. If they needed a second clue the received 1 point.  In the end 2 teams stood far above the rest. Project Mayhem scored 17 points.  But againThe Lemurs were perfect in the round and scored 18 points.

In our final round of the night we played Making the List. Teams had to try to guess as many items on a list as possible.  However, if they had just one item incorrect than they got no points for the question.  It was again a tightly contested round.  With Mindless at 21 points, Slow Loris at 21.5, and Wrong Hole was our winner at 22 points!

Overall scores were fairly close, but it was consistent play of Project Mayhem that earned him the big win for the night!

Thanks to all of our teams that played: Cool Runnings, Rawr, The Majestix Storm, The Rod Stewarts, Ninja Monkeys, Red Rocket in Perry’s Pocket, and Heathren. Join us next Saturday night at 9 PM!

Old Chicago (Grant St), Thornton, CO – May 9
May 10th, 2013 by Brandon

Finally! It looks like we’re back on a pretty regular schedule at OC in Thornton. With some NBA playoff games and some absences on my part, I haven’t been getting my MGL fix lately. It was good to be back last night and see a lot of old faithful, and a couple of brand new, teams. Those teams included: Almost Winning, Renée Gades, The Originals, The Human Beings, Taco, KESMAC, Fo Shizzle Bro Mizzle, and Pardon Me While I Whip This Out.

Round 1: Take Your Best Shot

One of those sassy little pun rounds. As I said during the game, people usually either love these or hate these. Either way, there’s guaranteed to be some eye rolling. Three teams scored perfect rounds; two of those teams used their Email Bonus point; but it was The Originals who eased into the win with a lucky guess on the tie-breaker question!

The Originals

Round 2: Where in the World?

This MGL original game tested our teams’ geography knowledge. There were a lot of high scores, but once again, The Originals dominated, missing only one question!

Round 3: Making the List

This is one of my favorite games that we play at MGL. The possible points are high, but so is the risk. I didn’t even know Michael Jackson had eight brothers and sisters, and I certainly didn’t know one was named Rebbie. I mean…Rebbie?!?!?! Well, at least one team did. And just when it looked like The Originals were going to sweep the night, Almost Winning defied their namesake and jumped into a strong 4 1/2-point lead to take this round!

Almost Winning

Final Scores:

3rd place: KESMAC (32 points)

2nd place: Almost Winning (35.5 points) – Living up to their namesake this time!

1st place: The Originals (37 points)

Taco

Renée Gades

Pardon Me While I Whip This Out

KESMAC

The Human Beings

In Round 1, we played Word for Word. This round ended in a tie between Snakes on a Bar and Gentleman’s Club, but was won by Gentleman’s Club. All teams now get to choose between a bucket of beer or a medium 2-topping pizza if they win rounds 1-3, and they chose the Bucket of Beer as their prize.

For Round 2, we played Pass the PopcornThis round and a medium pizza went to Shnerts!

The Bonus Beer Question and free beer went to these handsome gentlemen! Teamwork!

In Round 3, we played Out of Order. This round went to Threesome -1, taking home their coupon for a free bucket of beer or pizza for next time. Didn’t catch their photo… but they’re all fantastic.

Now, for the big winners of the evening…

Second place and a $25 gift certificate to Old Chicago went to The GFES, coming in at 45 total points.

Cuatro de Mayo at OC Broomfield
May 6th, 2013 by Paul

Your host feeling very festive. Any chance I get to wear my sombrero !

It was a fun and festive Cinco de Mayo weekend at Old Chicago in Broomfield. 13 teams joined us for trivia and it was another night full of close competition.

We started the night playing Word For Word. First off teams had to know what antonyms an synonyms were. After we made sure everyone was good on that we started the round. Our teams seemed to have a very good handle on the English language.  May the 4th Be With You and Hi finished the round with a  perfect score of 9. So did Kitchen in the Basement AND they played their Email Extra bonus point, pulling ahead by 1 to win the round and some free drinks!

Round 2 was everyone’s favorite movie game Pass the Popcorn. Well, not everyone’s favorite. Veloceraptor Extravanganza and Hawkeyes didn’t fair so well. But Kitchen in the Basement again had a great round scoring 17 points. But it was Wrong Hole and Guttersluts Named Ursula were tied atop the round with 18 points. However since Guttersluts Named Ursula was made up of the OC staff, it was Wrong Hole who was the winner and enjoyed a free appetizer.

Our final round of the night was Out of Order. Teams were given a list of 4 things and had to try and put them into a specific order.  Lots of points scored and 3 teams were nearly perfect. Kitchen in the Basement, Periodic Table Dancers, and My Car is Older Than Your Girlfriend. So the playoff question was asked.  And the winner of Round 3 was Kitchen in the Basement.

So winning Round 1, getting 2nd in Round 2, and winning Round 3 left Kitchen in the Basement with a sizable lead for the overall win!

Thanks to everyone for playing! Including the other teams not mentioned yet: Hi, Jenny Talia, AK Love, Nice Shoes, Wanna F, and I Don’t Know.

OC Broomfield 4/27
Apr 28th, 2013 by Paul

It was another great Saturday night at Old Chicago in Broomfield! 9 teams played with us.  It was a little smaller group than we normally have, but I think it made the competition that much more intense!

Our First round featured the game Picture This. Teams had to identify a phrase, place, or person by using a picture clue.  I don’t think I’ve ever had a game go so well for the players.  7 Teams ended up with perfect scores! However only Stick Pony and DCIF  played their Email Extra bonus point and therefore faced off in a playoff.  DCIF had the knowledge (or really the least worst answer) to win the question and the round1.

In Round 2 we played Go Mental. Teams tried to decipher which word on a list did not belong and then they had to tell me why.  2 part question worth up to 2 points for our teams.  We again had strong play from several teams.  The Warriors and This Isn’t Where I parked My Car fell just 1 point short of the leaders. While Dazed and Confused played their Email Extra bonus point to move into a tie with Hi. So we were again in a playoff situation. And this time it was Dazed and Confused with the win and the free appetizer!

For our third and final round of the evening we played the game Likewise. Teams tried to come up with an answer to a category that other teams may also have thought of. The more matches the more points!  With so many points available the final totals were not quite as close. In fact Hi was our winner by an outstanding 4 points.  And with that large of a victory in Round 3, Hi was also our Big Winner for the night!

Thanks also to Drink ’till She’s Legal, Bump Set Spike Your Face, and Extreme for coming out to play as well. We hope you can join us next Saturday at 9 PM at OC in Broomfield!
