MGL @ OC Roseville 3-1-16

Not Alderaan

Not Alderaan

RIP GOP

RIP GOP

Another really solid turnout this week as we had nine teams competing. Each round was really neck and neck with the Email Extra coming in handy for our winners in Round 1. Our big winners of the night, Not Alderaan (who week and week out have fantastic Star Wars related team names), won both rounds 1 AND 3 this week. Round 2 was taken, just barely, by the always competitive RIP GOP (their team name changes week to week). All in all it was a great night. The Boggle game was greatly appreciated by our friends of the Drake Alums. Looking forward to seeing everyone back next week for another great show!

2-26 Round 3

2-26 Round 2

(Top: The ‘Bou.  Bottom: Late to the Party)

Hello all you fine folks! For those of you who weren’t there you missed a pretty great night of Mind Games Live at the Old Chicago in Roseville. We had seven very competitive teams going back and forth throughout the evening. The first round prize of a $20 Gift Card to Old Chicago went to Deadpool 2016 after they beat Late to the Party in a tie breaker question. Our second round prize of a GC for a free pizza went to Late to the Party, one of our week in and week out power house teams at OC. The final prize, a $25 GC to Old Chicago, went to The ‘Bou for their round three dominance. Each round was pretty close having at least three teams all within two points of first. Thanks for playing and we’ll see you next week!

The last couple weeks at Old Chicago in Plymouth have been delightfully busy & competitive for Mind Games Live!  Shout out to these teams who came out last night: Brooks, Excelsior, F4, Generic Team Name Here, Kirsty, Kit & Co., Me gustan las tortugas, Pink, Pooper Scoopers, Rascals, Road Rash, Shiny, & The Guild

Special thanks to Rascals for adopting my brother into their team!

  • For Refraze in Round 1, F4 did a fantastic job and took away the W.
  • In Squeeze Fraze, we had a tight race, but The Guild got a perfect score and strategically used their e-mail extra for the win.
  • Round 3 was much tougher.  Some teams played conservatively and earned points, but some teams who played a little ballsy still earned more points.  Rascals took away this round.
  • Thanks to strong scores in all three rounds, Rascals won!

Pictured below are F4, The Guild, and a very blurry Rascals group (featuring my extra-blurry brother).

It was a night of gambling on what the competitors would answer.  Some people hated it.  Most people hated it.  The following teams gave it a shot: Hot Pursuit!, Beer Makes Smart, The Guild, Snuggly Ducklings, Pi, Road Rash, The Komeback Kaylas, Rascals, and Lluvia Morada.

  • Round 1: Hit or Miss.  We had a 3-way tie, in which Road Rash beat out The Komeback Kaylas and Lluvia Morada.
  • Round 2: Word Up.  This time a 4-way tie!  Pi beat Beer Makes Smart, The Komeback Kaylas, and Lluvia Morada.
  • Round 3: Mindstein.  Yet another 3-way tie.  This time Lluvia Morada beat Pi and Road Rash.
  • The name that appeared in all 3 rounds’ playoffs won the night.  Congrats, Lluvia Morada!

Sorry for my absence, dear MGL friends.  There have been some wonderful winners the last 3 weeks, but unfortunately today you will only see tonight’s.

We had a whole bunch of teams playing tonight; unfortunately I have failed myself and failed to capture them all for you.  Here are the winners, though!

  • Round 1 we played Finish Lines.  Apologies to Rattle Snakes, to whom I said, “the first 6 questions are usually really easy!”  That was not the case tonight.  Average Joes, however, proved their quotation prowess & came out on top.
  • Round 2 was Fictionary, which was very frustrating for many groups.  Rascals did a fantastic job, though, and beat The Guild in a tiebreaker.
  • Round 3 was Logos, which was won by El Gremio.
  • The game was won by a team whose name was something about Big Cookies.  I sincerely apologize for not correctly stating your name here.  I am proud of you, still!

Pictured below are Average Joes, El Gremio, and Cookies.

U-S-A! U-S-A!  The US Women’s National Team is going to the World Cup finals, and America turns many years old!

After the USWNT beat Germany, we played a little round of trivia.  Props to these guys for playing: Average Joes, BZEE, Star Spangled Monkey, Rascals, Soggy Waffles, Ropa!, The Guild, Inconsistently Constant, SS, and Snuggly Ducklings.

  • In Picture This for round 1, we had 3 teams tie with perfect scores.  Returners Monkey beat out newcomers BZEE and oldbies The Guild in a tiebreaker to win the round!
  • In Where In the World, The Guild, Rascals, and Snuggly Ducklings tied.  Unfortunately, Snuggly Ducklings bowed out right before I announced the scores because they thought they had lost and had a volleyball game to get to, so The Guild had an easier time beating Rascals for the win!
  • The final round, Red, White, and Blue, proved to be a bit tougher for most teams.  The Guild, though, held strong and handily won!
  • Thanks to strong performances all around, The Guild won the total game!

It was another perfect night, weather-wise, in the Minneapolis area.  As a result, the competition at OC was slim with only 6 teams: Road Rash, Rascals, Drinks on the House, Manbearpig, and Salsa de Carne.

  • In Word for Word, we had a close round.  5/6 teams got 8 points.  Salsa de Carne was the only team to play a perfect game, and they played their e-mail extra to firmly secure their win.
  • The Guild overcame all obstacles (which they proclaimed they had) to win Missing Link.  Supposedly this is usually one of their worst games, yet they came out on top this round.
  • A couple teams really struggled to match in Likewise, but 1 team rose above and managed to score 3 points each question: Salsa de Carne.
  • As you may guess based on the above results, Salsa de Carne won the total night.  Congrats!

Tonight was an exciting night, with Lebron getting beat and all, which is probably why we just had a small group of teams playing.  Thanks to Ballena Asesina, Dino Park, Heart Attack of the Clones, Rascals, Road Rash, The Guild, and We’re Bringing Monkey Back for playing!

Round 1 was Rule of Thumb, which saw a 3-way tie between Ballena Asesina, Heart Attack of the Clones, and The Guild after they each played perfect rounds and their e-mail extras.  Ballena came away with the W – lots of people overestimate just how icy Greenland is!

Round 2 was Go Mental, which Rascals totally owned.

Round 3 was Word Winder, and Ballena was the only team to play a perfect round – very impressive!

Ballena Asesina took away the W overall!

Also, these losers felt sad that they hadn’t been on the blog in a while, so enjoy this adorable picture of Road Rash!  They aren’t losers in spirit or in real life, only in tonight’s Mind Games Live game.Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

It was a beautiful night in the air conditioned room of OC.  Thanks to everyone for your patience with my technical difficulties; fortunately there weren’t any visual rounds tonight!  Teams out tonight were The Guild, Shave Those Sideburns, Werewolf Bar Mitzvah, Team Ham, The Krig Pen!, Onion Rings, Cinq, Rascals, and Road Rash

  • Round 1 we played origin.  It was a pretty close game, but newbies The Krig Pen! took away the round with 8 points.  Interestingly enough, it was a bad enough round that no one was confident enough to play their e-mail extra.
  • Next round we played Don’t Quote Me – not everyone’s favorite!  The Guild won this one.
  • Finally, we played Family Feud.  Rascals proved to be great at guessing the most popular answers and dominated the round.
  • With their super strong round 3, and strong previous rounds, Rascals won the entire night with a biiiiiig lead.  Congrats!

Pictured below are our winners, The Krig Pen!, The Guild, and Rascals.

Tuesday I was over the moon, still coming down from a high after seeing PRINCE in person with my own two eyes.  Unfortunately, I only had 9 teams to share that joy with.  Summer is here in Minnesota, though, and I totally understand that you don’t want to hang out in a bar on one of the few nights when the weather is perfect.

Thanks to 50 Shades of Gray Goose, Más Cencerro, Psyched, Rascals, Road Rash, Shuck It Trebek, Snuggly Ducklings, Stratton Oakmont, and The Guild for coming out!

  • Round 1 was ReFraze.  Four teams got perfect scores, but only two of them submitted their e-mail extra for the round.  Más Cencerro and Road Rash went to the playoffs, and Road Rash won by a small margin!
  • Round 2 was Garage Band, which some teams loved and some hated.  We ultimately had 3 teams in the playoffs after earning 14 points each.  Más Cencerro beat Shuck It Trebek and The Guild by understanding the height of the Lincoln Memorial sculpture.
  • Round  3 was Split Decision, which frustrated a number of teams.  The Guild however, always seems to manage to kill it when the other teams are down, and they prevailed this time too.
  • Overall, The Guild won straight up after playing 3 strong rounds.  Congrats!

Due to technical difficulties, the beautiful faces of these winners will not be shared this week.
